Carol Vorderman has addressed the criticism directed at The Chase star Mark Labbett after he made a “creepy” comment about her.
Vorderman was among the celebrities to appear on the ITV game show Beat the Chasers on Tuesday night (11 January).
While the episode aired, Labbett – also known as The Beast – made a comment about her “tangible assets” on Twitter.
The quizzer wrote: “I don’t know what is more impressive about @carolvorders, her intellect of her more tangible assets #superstar #BeatTheChasers.”
Some fans criticised Labbett for his remark, writing that it was “a bit creepy and sexist”.
“Really? This is 2022 not 1972!” wrote one person.
A second disappointed follower quickly added: ‘Bit inappropriate.’
Sensing trouble on the horizon, a third commented: ‘You’re gonna get slaughtered over those remarks.’
Others appeared to support Labbett’s opinion of Vorderman, with one joking: ‘Are your eyes back in your head now Mark?’
While a second quipped: ‘It looked as if Carol had dressed that way to direct your attention away from the job in hand. Nearly worked.’
Carol’s episode, which aired on January 11, saw the former Countdown star face down all six chasers – Anne Hegarty, Jenny Ryan, Paul Sinha, Shaun Wallace, Darragh Ennis and Labbett.
But her legendary intellect let her down on the night, and the Cambridge educated star walked away with just £1k for her chosen charity, the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA).
Carol – whose brother was born “with a severe cleft” – stunned viewers by wearing a form-fitting red lace dress that accentuated her curvy figure.
Taking to Twitter shortly before the show aired, she wrote: ‘On Beat The Chasers tonight @itv 9pm. Even though we recorded it a long long time ago it was lovely to meet @drzoewilliams….hello missus.
‘And to be with my old muckers @markthebeastlabbett and @bradderswalsh…. Hope you enjoy it. Sending all good thoughts.’
She wrote: “Well the Beast and I are having a bit of a laugh over this as he is a good buddy of mine and we always take the mick out of each other…. All hail the beast @MarkLabbett.”
The 61-year-old added: “And thank you Bradders and the gang for such a great show x.”
Labbett apologised for his comment on Twitter, writing: “So sorry @carolvorders #BeatTheChasers.”
Vorderman responded: “I forgive you, my Beast bud…. But don’t do it again,” accompanied by a laughing face emoji.
