What is Dye Sublimation Printing?
It is defined as a procedure in which transmission is created with the help of a special printer by utilizing a special ink and a special paper. This transmission procedure gets applied to a complete polyester fabric by using heat and pressure.
As a result, the pores of the fabric get open up and become absorptive at some specific temperature of around 180-200 degrees.
Further, the ink present on the transfer paper gets transformed into the gas state at the same temperature. When the heat gets removed, the pores again get closed up and the ink will get back into the solid form along with gripping the print onto the fabric.
What suits this process?
This method mainly gets used to add a whole color print on the white or light color whole polyester fabrics. The light color garments can work for dye sublimation, but this should only be done if you don’t have much color concern and the design in the main.
In the case of complete body sublimated apparel, this process is done by covering the complete garment body with the printing procedure and is done before the stitching of the garment together. Generally, there are white garment pieces and further colors will be added by using the sublimation method.
Once the printing is done on the fabric, the next step is to stitch the garment and delivered it to the customer. This method is also ideal if you wish to put the company logo on the polyester fabric, say work uniforms or custom socks. As the process involves the transfer process, the logo or the design that needs to be added should be of dark color. A perfect way to decorate polyester apparel!
What are the benefits of dye-sublimation?
Being a digital printing method that allows the creation of vibrant images on routine items, it has become a favorable choice by many industries! Before this came into existence, the process was laborious; things have changed as it stepped into the market.
Let’s talk about the benefits of sublimation printing now!
A Time-Saver Method
There is a high difference between the other traditional methods and this dye sublimation process and in the right way. It is quite simple when compared to the other ones. An image gets created on the computer, gets printed on the specialized transfer paper by using sublimation inks, and the paper then gets applied with the image to the specific item.
The transfer paper is pressed on a surface with a heat press at a temperature of around 400F. This makes the sublimation ink gets transferred from the paper to the polymer fiber within the substrate. Within no time, the heat gets removed and the transfer paper gets peeled off. What you see in the left-over part is a full-color image on the substrate. This complete process, from design to production is done in less than 20 minutes.
The printer used in dye-sublimation printing methods can range from a small inkjet-based printer to a medium-size inkjet printer. There is no need for large and bulky printers to get the printing done on materials.
The custom sublimation printing generally involves the wastage of transfer paper; there will be a decreased waste both in the case of short or long printing run. The method follows the creation of orders or samples on demand and that is why there is less wastage of materials or substrates.
The digital dye sublimation method is an emerging process and there have been more ways now open for the sublimation. In earlier times, the inks needed to be physically changed in the models to keep the print going well, but now you have the convenience of neglected ink switching. The machine will keep doing the undisturbed printing, even when the ink switching takes place.
Sublimation printing, if compared with the traditional methods like screen printing, demands less washing after the printing gets done. The process provides assets of the easy washing, quick-dry, and less creasing properties so that environment doesn’t get impacted much.
Most of the traditional printing methods fail to come up as an affordable option in the case of small order prints. This is because the artwork preparation demands time and you have to arrange the equipment to get the production process run. Both the time and money are high if you choose traditional methods for small orders.
On the other hand, the sublimation ink is designed to work with various models of desktop units. With the help of an economic printer, a computer, and a heat press, you can easily create the full-color transfers and that too at a low cost. Dye sublimation saves your money and gives you the affordable choice to get your favorite design printed.
